Alex MacGillivray Alex MacGillivray
Head of Programmes, AccountAbility

Alex MacGillivray has many years experience working on sustainable development, both in the private sector and with research institutes. He heads the research department at AccountAbility, the global non-profit promoting accountability innovations for sustainable development. Alex leads the Country Climate Competitiveness Index, the State of Responsible Competitiveness reportand the Accountability Rating of global corporations. Alex has worked on responsible competitiveness strategies in countries ranging from Finland and Canada to Saudi Arabia, China and Central America. He is a regular lecturer at universities and presenter at major conferences.

From 1996 to 1999 he sat on the UN expert group on sustainability indicators and until 2001 he was deputy director of the New Economics Foundation. Alex has an MA from Oxford and an MSc from Imperial College; he speaks French and Spanish. His book A Brief History of Globalization was published in 2006.

Amit Mitra Amit Mitra
Secretary General, FICCI

Dr. Amit Mitra, Secretary General, FICCI, is the Recipient of the Countrys' highest Civilian Award "Padma Shree" conferred by the President of India in 2008.

An Economist by background, Dr. Mitra has made seminal contribution in the field of trade and industry. He is a part of the Advisory Committee to Union Commerce Minister of India on WTO. He serves on the various Sub-Groups of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council, Planning Commission’s Expert Group on Equitable Development, as Independent Board Member on largest PSUs like GAIL, SAIL, and also on many other Forums, formed by the Government of India. He is also a Member of the `Eminent Persons Group’ established by the UNCTAD Secretary General on Non-Tariff Barriers (NBTs).

Dr. Mitra’s is also the Recipient of highest civilian Awards conferred by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan – 2006, President of the Republic of Italy in 2005 and 2007.

Dr. Mitra also has to his credit scores of publications in edited books & journals and policy articles in top newspapers and national magazines.

Arun Seth Arun Seth
Chairman BT India

Arun Seth was appointed chairman of BT India in 2004.  He is responsible for driving the IT and BPO global resourcing activities of BT in India and collaborating with BT’s various service providers and partners. Arun also leads BT’s efforts in corporate and social responsibility in India.

Arun is a member of the Executive Committee of NASSCOM, India’s leading industry association for IT and BPO, and was the founding chairman of the BPO Forum for NASSCOM.

Arun Seth joined BT India 10 years ago in 1995. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in establishing BT as a leading international telecommunications player in India.

Arun has over 30 years of commercial and technical expertise in the IT and telecommunications industry in India. Prior to joining BT in 1995, he was the senior vice president with the UB Group’s Corporate Management division in Bangalore and Delhi. He headed the commercial operations of Unitel Communications, the telecommunications arm of the UB Group, for five years.

Christina Koh Christina Koh
Senior Vice President, Communications and Sustainability, DHL Express Global

Christina Koh is the Head of Communications and Sustainability, DHL Express Global Head Office. Based in Bonn, Germany, she is responsible for developing and implementing communications efforts for DHL Express worldwide.

In addition to her corporate communications function, she is a key driver of the company’s Sustainability approach and oversees corporate social responsibility programs globally. Prior to her current appointment, Christina joined the company with a mandate to establish the company’s first Corporate Affairs division in Asia Pacific, overseeing the communications strategy for 41 countries and territories in the region.

During her tenure in Asia Pacific, she was involved in piloting and maturing the company’s Managing Disaster Response program, which outlines DHL’s prompt and comprehensive action and communication plan towards disaster management.  Currently, Christina is steering the environmental program to reduce carbon footprint within DHL Express operations globally.

David Croft David Croft
Global Conformance and Sustainability Director, Cadbury-Schweppes

David Croft joined Cadbury in June 2005 as Ethical Sourcing Director before being promoted in October 2006 to the role of global Director of Conformance and Sustainability. Based in London, David is a member of the Supply Chain leadership team, headed by Steve Driver, President, Global Supply Chain.

David’s principal responsibilities encompass Cadbury global activity on food safety and quality programme, health and safety, environmental management and environmental sustainability, ethical sourcing and sustainable agriculture. He is currently a member of the Food Ethics council, and has previously served as a director of the Ethical Trading Initiative, and as a Council member at the Campden & Chorleywood Food Research Association.

Prior to joining Cadbury, David worked for the Co-operative Group in Manchester, UK, where he held a number of senior roles within their retail business, leading technical and marketing functions, including quality assurance, product and brand development, ethical sourcing, and retail standards. While at the Co-op, he led a number of high profile consumer marketing campaigns, addressing issues such as Fairtrade, organic and integrated farm management, animal welfare, and consumer diet and health. David holds an MBA and MSc degree in Environmental Health.

Eric Olson

Eric Olson
Vice President, Advisory Services, Business for Social Responsibility

Eric Olson is Vice President of Advisory Services at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), responsible for delivering consultation on the design of successful CSR strategies, and the integration of those strategies into core business practices at BSR’s member companies and other clients.

Prior to joining BSR, Eric was Vice President at the Natural Step in San Francisco, where he led that organization’s work to deliver advice and counsel to a broad range of companies on sustainability matters.  Eric previously served as a Vice President at the Boston Consulting Group, and was a Partner and Founding Member of the Mitchell Madison Group, a consultancy with offices in New York and San Francisco. 

Eric has a Masters in Philosophy in Russian and East European Studies from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar, and a B.A. in Chemistry and Russian from Macalester College.

Georg Kell Georg Kell
Executive Director, UN Global Compact

Following extensive experiences in Africa and Asia as a financial analyst, Georg Kell began his career at the United Nations in Geneva where he worked from 1987 to 1990 with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In 1990, he joined the New York Office of UNCTAD which he headed from 1993 to 1997. In 1997, Kell became a senior officer in the Executive Office of UN Secretary-General responsible for fostering cooperation with the private sector. In 2001, he was appointed executive director of the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative, with nearly 4,000 participating companies and stakeholders from more than 120 countries.

Harish Manwani Harish Manwani
President Asia, Africa, Central & Eastern Europe, Unilever

Harish Manwani is part of the Unilever Executive (UEx) a 7 member team that runs Unilever’s operations worldwide.

Mr Manwani joined Hindustan Unilever (HUL) in 1976 and the Board of HUL in 1995, as Director responsible for the Personal Products business. In addition, he held regional responsibility as the Category Leader for Personal Products for the then Central Asia & Middle East (CAME) Group.

In 2000, Mr Manwani moved to the UK as Senior Vice President for the Global Hair Care & Oral Care Categories, and in early 2001 was appointed President Home & Personal Care (HPC), Latin America Business Group. He also served as chairman of Unilever’s Latin America Advisory Council. In 2004, he was appointed President and CEO of the HPC North America Business Group, and in April 2005 was elevated to the Unilever Executive as President Asia Africa. He is also Non-Executive Chairman of Hindustan Unilever, a member of the Supervisory Board of ING, and a member of the Executive Board of the Indian School of Business (ISB).

Hayden Turner Hayden Turner
Producer and Presenter

Hayden Turner is an experienced wildlife television presenter, now a global household name through his work for the National Geographic Channel and TV. He reports from some of the wildest and most scenic places on earth transmitting passion and expertise with each broadcast. Hayden combines an exceptional commitment to conservation with an understanding of his audiences’ interests. He works alongside experienced television crews, leading producers and directors and has co-produced several of his programmes.

Over the past twelve years, the former zookeeper has travelled extensively throughout the African continent and to more than 35 other countries. He has worked with numerous species but specialises in the husbandry of African Mammals. When not adventuring in some remote corner of the globe, Hayden runs programmes and gives talks for zoos and schools, believing that the most effective approach to conservation is education.

John Elkington John Elkington
Founding Partner and Director, Volans Ventures
Founder and Non-Executive Director, SustainAbility

A co-founder of SustainAbility in 1987 (Chair from 1995-2005), he is seen as a world authority on corporate responsibility and sustainable development. In 2004, BusinessWeek described him as “a dean of the corporate responsibility movement for three decades.” John has authored or co-authored 17 books, including 1988’s million-selling Green Consumer Guide and Cannibals with Forks: The Triple Bottom Line of 21st Century Business (1997), and has written or co-written some 40 published reports. His latest book, co-authored with Pamela Hartigan, The Power of Unreasonable People: How Social Entrepreneurs Create Markets That Change the World, and was published by Harvard Business School Press on February, 2008. Through SustainAbility and Volans, he has been working with The Skoll Foundation on a $1 million, 3-year field-building program in relation to social entrepreneurship. Khalid Malik Khalid Malik
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, China

Mr. Khalid Malik is a development practitioner with extensive leadership and management experience. Educated as an economist at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Essex and Punjab, he has held a variety of key managerial, technical and policy positions in UN/UNDP both in the field and at headquarters.

Mr. Malik is currently serving as the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in China (since August 2003).

Prior to that he served as Director of the UNDP Evaluation Office and the Chair of the UN Evaluation Group in New York (1998-2003) where he was instrumental in the introduction of results-based management in UNDP, a critical factor in the reform of the organization and more broadly UN reform.

He served from 1993 to 1997 as UN Representative in Uzbekistan covering both development and humanitarian operations where he encouraged cultural revival and social transformation efforts. He played a leadership role in securing agreement between the five central Asian states and their neighbours on a regional trade and transit agreement, and facilitating road links between Central Asia and China.

Mr. Malik has edited books and authored articles on a range of topics, including capacity development, poverty and inequality, post-conflict, evaluation and results-based management. His co-edited book on “Capacity for Development - New Solutions to Old Problems” now in its second printing and the 2004 Report on Development Effectiveness have attracted global attention. He is on the Advisory Board of the Oxford Centre of China Studies and is currently working on a book analyzing China’s development experience and its future prospects.

Lalita Ramdas Lalita Ramdas
Board Chair, Greenpeace International

Lalita Ramdas is an educator and activist, and was a founding member of the Board of Greenpeace India, where she served as Board Chair and Trustee prior to being elected Chair of the Greenpeace International Board.

Her early career in formal primary school teaching and broadcasting was followed by development work through education with marginalised and minority communities, with a special focus on gender and women and within an overarching Human Rights, Peace and Justice framework. Lalita has written extensively on issues pertaining to literacy, gender justice, education policy, education and human rights, peace and nuclear power. She was one of the '1000 Peace Women' nominated collectively for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.

Lalita currently coordinates a group addressing access and equity issues in rural primary education, with a special focus on indigenous and other minority groups. She is very active in leading peace initiatives with students from both India and Pakistan and with the anti-nuclear and peace movement in India.

Michael Wilkinson

Michael Wilkinson
Vice President, Sustainable Development, Royal Dutch Shell

Michael Wilkinson has a background in international human resource management, corporate governance, and sustainable development. He was Group HR Director and Company Secretary of a British multinational food company where he also had responsibility for legal and corporate affairs.  Having joined Shell in 2001, in 2002 he was appointed Executive Vice President Global Human Resources and Regional Business Director Europe and Africa for Shell Chemicals Limited.

Since 2005, he has been based in the corporate HQ of Shell in The Hague where he has a global role as Vice President Sustainable Development.  He has accountability for public policy, CSR, environmental and social impact issues and for international stakeholder relations.

Mike is involved in a range of human rights activities, including initiatives such as the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. He is a board member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and of the US based company Business for Social Responsibility (BSR).

Mihoko Tamamura Mihoko Tamamura
Representative and Country Director, WFP India, New Delhi, The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

Ms. Tamamura was appointed as WFP Representative and Country Director for India in July 2008. She works closely with Government and private corporation partners to achieve the goal of a “hunger free India”. Besides her overall responsibility for WFP operations in India, Ms. Tamamura also plays a global role in WFP to mobilize resources from India for WFP operations worldwide. Prior to the current position, Ms. Tamamura served as Director of WFP Japan Relations Office in Yokohama for 6 years, and spearheaded WFP’s partnerships with private corporations in Japan. Before joining WFP in June 2002, she spent 13 years working in other UN agencies, including the UN Department of Peace-keeping Operations (UN/DPKO) in New York, the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Tokyo, the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, and the UN Department of Administration and Management in New York. Ms. Tamamura started her UN career in New York in 1989 after gaining experience of marketing in a private corporation in London.

Ms. Tamamura obtained her B.A. (Litt.) from Kyoto University, Japan, an M.Sc. (Econ.) from London School of Economics, U.K., and an M.B.A. from the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, France.

In October 2007, Newsweek listed Ms Tamamura among “The World’s 100 Most Respected Japanese”.

Rageh Omaar Rageh Omaar
International Broadcast Journalist

Combined with his role for Al Jazeera where he presents a daily documentary strand called Witness, Rageh has recently worked on a number of special programmes for television: The Shroud of Turin for BBC2 and Abolition of Slavery for BBC4. Rageh has also filmed a number of reports for Channel 4's Dispatches series.
He rose to prominence in 2003 as the BBC’s World Affairs correspondent and 'Man in Baghdad'; his reports from the beleaguered Iraqi capital became a regular feature on news bulletins in the UK and around the world.

Rageh is a published author. His first book Revolution Day drew from the diaries he kept while in Iraq. Rageh’s latest book Only Half of Me: Being a Muslim in Britain was published in June 2006.

Rageh Omaar was educated at Cheltenham Boys College and later Oxford University where he gained a BA Honours in Modern History.

Apart from being a Member of the Group Management Board of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Mr. Dubey is on the Boards of several Group companies. His key focus areas are HR / IR initiatives for the Mahindra Group, the After-Market business vertical, Corporate Communications and Corporate Infrastructure & Services.

He is Chairman of the Sustainability Council and CSR Council of the Group, a Member of the Corporate Governance Cell, & Member of the Governing Council of the Mahindra Institute of Quality.

Rajeev joined Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. in January 2004 after a career spanning 29 years in the Tata Group. He spent 21 years with Tata Steel, and the next 7 years as MD & CEO first of Tata Metaliks and then of Rallis India.

Rajeev studied Economics at St. Stephen’s College, and at the Delhi School of Economics. He did his MBA from the Yale School of Management, USA as a J N Tata scholar, and was selected as a Distinguished Alumnus of the School.

He is also associated with a number of prestigious Institutes and Committees, including the National HRD Network, the CII National Committee of Indian MNCs, the CII Apex Council on Affirmative Action and the CII Western Regional Council.

Ravi Singh Ravi Singh
Secretary General and CEO, WWF-India

Mr. Ravi Singh is the Secretary General & CEO of WWF-India since 2003. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Singh was the General Manager and Head, Multi National Corporates, Deutsche Bank, Mumbai. He started his career as a Lecturer of History in Bhagat Singh College, Delhi University after his Masters in History from St. Stephen’s College in 1975. He joined The Chartered Bank (now Standard Chartered Bank) in 1976 and Deutsche Bank in 1985. Mr. Singh has over thirty years of working experience and domain knowledge of the banking sector and organisational behaviour.

Beside his professional achievements in the corporate sector, Mr. Singh has had an abiding interest in the conservation of nature and working for India. He has been involved in conservation related issues since 1976 and has been a member of several conservation organizations, which included WWF and the BNHS. Mr. Singh was a member of the BNHS executive committee as also a participant at various levels on conservation and environmental issues.

Ros Tennyson Ros Tennyson
Director, The Partnership Initiative, International Business Leaders Forum
Ros Tennyson has led the cutting edge cross-sector partnership work of the International Business Leaders Forum (IBLF) since 1992. Author of several practical partnership-building took books, Ros has led capacity-building workshops in more than 40 countries as well as worked on a range of tailored partnership development programmes with corporations, international NGOs and the UN system. Sanjeev Chadha Sanjeev Chadha
Chairman and CEO, PepsiCo

Sanjeev Chadha is the Chairman & CEO of PepsiCo’s India Region, responsible for both Beverages and Snacks businesses in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh. He is also the Chairman of CII’s National Committee on Rural Development.

Sanjeev joined PepsiCo in 1989 and was part of the 'founding team' at PepsiCo. India. Over his 19 years with PepsiCo, he has held a variety of roles in India and across Asia. His last role in Asia was the Chief Commercial Officer of PepsiCo’s snack and beverages businesses across Asia Pacific, based out of Hong Kong.

He was earlier with JWT Advertising and started his career with Brooke Bond, now part of Unilever.

Sanjeev did his B.Sc. (Hons) from Delhi University and his MBA (Marketing) from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. His wife Radha, is a marketing consultant and author, and they have two children Kabir and Noor. Sanjeev loves reading, travelling, hiking, skiing, and spending time with his family.

Satinder Bindra Satinder Bindra
Director of the Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI), UNEP

Satinder Bindra is the Director of the Division of Communications and Public Information (DCPI) based at UNEP Headquarters in Nairobi. Prior to his appointment, Satinder was a Special Correspondent for CBS San Francisco and also worked with the USA's leading media think tank - the Paley Center for the Media - where he organized global conferences for media CEO's and guided the Center on issues shaping the future of journalism.

From 1999 to 2007, Satinder worked as a Senior International Correspondent/South Asia Bureau Chief for CNN New Delhi, India. He covered breaking news, filed documentaries, investigative reports, CNN.com stories and hosted half hour specials from eight South Asian countries. He was awarded the duPont Award for being CNN's lead correspondent during the 2004 Tsunami and was honored as 2007's `Best International Correspondent' by one of India's leading business schools. He also won the SAJA (South Asian Journalist Association) Award in New York for news coverage a record five times.

Susan Cote-Freeman Susan Côté-Freeman
Transparency International (TI), Programme Manager, Private Sector

Susan Côté-Freeman is a member of Transparency International’s private sector team. In this capacity, she manages the Business Principles for Countering Bribery initiative, which focuses on raising standards of corporate anti-bribery practice through advocacy and the development of practical tools for business.

Susan was closely involved in the development of the Business Principles for Countering Bribery and has been promoting them among corporate audiences since their publication in 2003. She works extensively with companies, industry associations and international initiatives. Her private sector advocacy work has taken her to countries as diverse as Lebanon, Mauritius, France, Indonesia, Argentina and Taiwan.

A native of Canada and graduate of Laval University, Susan first joined Transparency International’s headquarters in Berlin in 1997 and has since worked for the organisation in London and Washington D.C. She is now based in Ottawa where she continues to manage private sector projects on behalf of Transparency International.
