Driving progress towards the SDGs

Singapore recently ratified the Paris agreement, commemorating also the one-year anniversary of the launch of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These events further underline the urgency for businesses and governments to join the global sustainability conversation, making the Responsible Business Forum more relevant than ever.

Experts warn that slow implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals will stall advances against rising global inequality. If we are to reach the targets set out in Agenda 2030, we need to engage today. Despite the initial slow start, many fantastic opportunities exist for businesses and governments to work together to really accelerate change and drive progress forward, in a way that is inclusive to all.

This is precisely what the Responsible Business Forum 2016 held in Singapore, 22-24 November, aims to achieve. By bringing together diverse perspectives from business, government, NGOs and other agencies, the aim is to not only highlight some of the great existing initiatives, but also to provide fertile ground for new partnerships to develop and initiatives to evolve.

Each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals will be addressed in workshop sessions facilitated by UNDP, Scaling Up Nutrition, UN University Institute of Public Health, UNESCO, UN Women, WWF Water Stewardship, UN ESCAP, Fair Labor Association, Asian Development Bank, 100 Resilient Cities, UNEP, Conservation International, WWF Coral Triangle, The Nature Conservancy, and Business for Social Responsibility.

The 5th Responsible Business Forum on Sustainable Development will be held in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, 22 – 24 November 2016. This year’s forum, the largest to date, will help companies better understand the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the opportunities in supporting governments to achieve them.
