Dr Ouk Makara is the Director of the Cambodian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. In 2003, he completed PhD in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Queensland, Australia. Since 1991, Dr Ouk Makara, as a plant breeder, and his breeding team have released 44 rice varieties and 13 varieties of other crops. He was a member of ACIAR PAC (2012-2016) and he is current member of CORRA and CURE. He is also a national focal point of ASEAN-ATWGARD and ASEAN-CRN. In 2017, he received Awards for Outstanding Scientist from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Cambodia; Outstanding Rice Scientist for Cambodia and ASEAN Rice Science and Technology Ambassadors during the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN on 7th August, in the Philippines.
