Senior Manager, Policy and Futures Unit

Tatjana von Bormann is the senior manager of the Policy and Futures Unit at WWF South Africa. The multidisciplinary team she leads focuses on some of the key challenges at the intersection of society and the environment, among them energy provision, food security and sustainable urban settlements. Her research expertise is in the area of food systems particularly around life cycle analysis, consumption and markets. Increasingly this includes enquiry into the implications of a shift in dietary patterns and the challenge of nourishing a growing population. Through her work with the retailer Woolworths she leads a partnership that has received global recognition (it was voted runner up in the Best NGO Business Partnership at the Responsible Business Award in London in 2016). Tatjana also serves as a member of a WWF international leadership team focusing on markets and innovation. Her international responsibilities with WWF include leading global collective action in innovation in business models and technology, among them the circular economy and blockchains. This international team informs WWF thinking and responses to marine plastic pollution and other environmental challenges.
