Azra Fredericks

Commissioner for Social Economic and Environmental Affairs
African Youth Commission

Azra has graduated with her Masters in International Relations from the University of the Witwatersrand. She became a member of Golden Key International Honour Society in 2011 and was invited to participate in the International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) conference in China representing both her University and country. She has worked at the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), the Human Rights Institute of South Africa (HURISA) and at the Afro Middle East Centre (AMEC).
Azra is a founding member and General Manager of a Non-Profit Organisation called Football Solves Problems (FSP) that aims to educate and empower children from disadvantaged communities in and around the Johannesburg area in South Africa using sport and education as mechanisms to equip children with tools and opportunities regardless of their socio economic situations. In January 2017, she was elected to the Executive Council on the African Youth Commission as the Commissioner for Social, Economic and Environmental Affairs. Her interests include development, human rights, gender issues, redistributive justice and climate change.
