Raquel is Senior Advisor for Gender Equality, United Nations Development Programme in New York. She is coordinator of the UNDP Gender Equality Seal Certification Programme and responsible for the integration of gender equality in UNDP policy, planning, reporting and corporate accountability. She provides technical advice to UNDP Headquarters and offices across the world and ensures corporate standards around gender equality are met. UNDP standards include gender balance, zero tolerance to sexual harassment, or equal benefit of UNDP programmes for women and men. Raquel coordinates also an initiative to promote women leaders within the organisation.
Prior to this, she served as regional advisor for Latin-America, and programme officer in UNDP El Salvador. Raquel is co-founder of the knowledge management platform for gender equality ‘America Latina Genera’. She supported programmes to eradicate violence against women, to promote a more equitable distribution of governmental budget and to promote the full engagement and participation of women in politics.
