Velma has worked extensively in South Africa and the U.K across advertising and brand strategy for companies like Yellowwood Future Architects, Lowe London, OIL and the Jupiter Drawing Room. Velma moved to Cape Town Tourism in 2011 to head up their marketing team where her team won numerous awards for destination marketing leadership. Seeking to merge her loves of travel and technology, Velma joined Airbnb in March 2016 as the Regional Market Manager for Sub Saharan Africa . Velma was responsible for launching Airbnb Trips in Cape Town, one of the initial 12 cities in which the initiative was launched globally. She is passionate about how Airbnb can redefine travel in Africa through democratising travel and taking tourism to people and places that need it most.
