Xiaoquan Zhang, Ph.D. in ecology, was a research professor and the lead of climate change and forest group from 2003 to 2009 in Chinese Academy of Forestry. He joined The Nature Conservancy (TNC) since May 2009 and is now the Chief Science Officer of TNC China. He led the preparation of the first greenhouse gas inventory in land use change and forestry sector of China, development of the first and sixth CDM afforestation/reforestation baseline and monitoring methodology approved by CDM Executive Board (AR-AM0001, AR-AM0006), took a lead in successful development of bamboo forestation methodology and forest management under CCER, took a lead in successful development of several A/R CDM projects in China and India, including the first and third registered A/R CDM project in the world. He was the lead author of the IPCC Good Practice guidance for land use, land use change and forestry, 2006 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventory (Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use, AFOLU), IPCC 4th assessment report, Voluntary Carbon Standard for AFOLU projects. He was the member of the CDM A/R Working group (2006-2015), reviewer of the Annex I party greenhouse gas inventory (2004-2015) and lead reviewer (2009-2015). He has published over 100 academic papers in domestic and international journals, and four books related his interested field.
