Total farmland in the United States has decreased by 1 million acres since 2014. That’s a loss of 18,000 farms. It is no secret that the face of the American farmer is over 57, white and male; he often has no succession plan. Younger students — from urban as well as rural areas — need to be shown and encouraged into possible careers in agriculture and related research fields.

With a dwindling number of millennials interested in farming, the agriculture industry is bracing for impact. Is the U.S. food industry in decline?
