The ocean has always been central to life in Hawaii, providing food, cultural benefits and recreation.The increased plastic waste on Hawaii’s shoreline is a big deal because it’s affecting the state’s wildlife. There’s evidence that marine life and seabirds have been ingesting bits of plastic, which is detrimental to their health. As Hawaii contemplates joining over 60 places in the US to ban the use of throwaway styrofoam/polystyrene – 17 students from Hawaii vision a future for their oceans.
